Umar A. Sheikh

Mr. Sheikh concentrates his practice on commercial litigation, representing both plaintiffs and defendants in actions involving all forms of contracts, real estate and intellectual property, in venues including the state and federal courts of New York and New Jersey, the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, and private arbitration forums. Mr. Sheikh is a graduate of Brooklyn Law School and Brooklyn College (City University of New York) where he obtained his B.A. in Chemistry. Prior to joining Marino & Associates, P.C. on an of counsel basis as litigation counsel, Mr. Sheikh was associated with an intellectual property boutique based in New Jersey where he managed the firm’s litigation and trademark practices, and spent several years at two general practice firms in New York City concentrating on commercial litigation and commercial real estate. Mr. Sheikh offers his clients a pragmatic results-driven approach to litigation. Mr. Sheikh emphasizes value in every phase of litigation and seeks to employ all methods of technology to reduce litigation associated costs to the client. He has handled matters involving all types of contract disputes, intellectual property claims (including copyright, trademark, patent, and trade secret), real estate contract litigation (including purchase agreements and landlord-tenant litigation), restrictive covenant litigation, shareholder/partner disputes and dissolution litigation. Mr. Sheikh has successfully obtained and defended preliminary injunction applications, and has both bench and jury trial experience. Mr. Sheikh is active member of the New York State Bar Association, the Asian American Bar Association of New York (“AABANY”, and the National Association of Muslim Lawyers. He has previously served on the Board of Directors for AABANY, and has also served as chairperson and member for several of AABANY’s committees and panels. In 2006-07, Mr. Sheikh co-chaired AABANY’s Bylaws Revisions Committee with the Hon. Dora L. Irizarry, United States District Judge (EDNY), which committee made vast revisions to the AABANY By-Laws. Mr. Sheikh has served numerous times as a judge for the Northeast Regional of the Thomas Tang National Moot Court Competition. .
